Tips to get a hold of the EDD!

Hello Expecting Parents in California!
The number one thing that I wish someone shared with me when I was going out on leave was how tricky it was to actually get a hold of someone at the EDD! (which stands for the Employment Development Department). This is the office where you are going to be filing for your Short Term Disability and your Paid Family Leave.
Here is a cheat sheet below of the best times to call to get a hold of someone so you are not stuck in their queue or just can’t get through!
It can be difficult contacting the EDD, and may require multiple attempts. While the lines can fill up quickly, here are the steps that we've found to be most effective in reaching a representative:
If you’re calling about a pregnancy disability claim or a medical claim:
Call 8004803287at EXACTLY7:59am or 8:00amPST(before the EDD lines reach max capacity) or at 3:00pm PST (when the EDD lines are a bit slower). I set an alarm to call!
There are several prompts you'll need to go through once you call in. In order to reach the needed department, follow these steps:
● Press 1 for English
● Press 3 3 0 in rapid succession to speak to a call representative
If you’re calling about a PFL bonding claim or caregiver claim, please call:
1. Call 8772384373 at exactly 8:00amPST (before the EDD lines reach max capacity) or at 3:00pm, PST (when the EDD lines are a bit slower).
2. There are several prompts you'll need to go through once you call in. In order to reach the needed department, follow these steps:
● Press 1 for English
● Press 3 for Paid Family Leave
● Press 1 for Eligibility
● Press 5 for Bonding
● Press 0 to be connected to a rep
You can also go into their physical offices (I did this and it was really helpful to speak to someone!)
